Our Facilities

A premier equestrian facility in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Arena & Barn

The Patrol sits on 23 acres in Woodside on which we operate one of Northern California’s most beautiful and well-equipped horse show facilities. It  includes two exhibitors show rings, a permanent grandstand, warm-up and practice areas, and a 20-stall barn.

The Clubhouse

The clubhouse features a 200 person great hall, bar, indoor kitchen, and propane-driven outdoor cook stove. There is parking amongst several tall oak trees. The photo history of the patrol decorates the clubhouse as well as each table surface.

Disaster Response

Community service has occupied the Patrol to an ever-increasing extent in the last few decades.

Officially designated by the Woodside Fire Protection District and CERPP (Citizens Emergency Response Preparedness Program), the Patrol’s 23- acre facility is ready at any time to convert to a relief center. Along with 275 cots, 402 blankets, 84 5-gallon jugs of water, tools and first aid supplies.

The Patrol has its own mini power plant, a generator that can service the entire grounds. The Patrol has a fully functioning indoor kitchen, a propane-driven outdoor cook stove as well.

And the Patrol is ready to handle more than just humans; those of the four-legged persuasion will find safety and solace within the large riding arena, livestock pens and 20-stall barn.

Formation of the Mounted Patrol

Formation of the Mounted Patrol

The patrol had its origin immediately following the Pearl Harbor disaster, in December 1941.

San Mateo County has many miles of rough, almost virgin country and unprotected coastline, accessible only on horseback. Thus, the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County was born, dedicated to supporting the emergency services of the Sheriff and the Chief Fire Warden of the County.

The Mounted Patrol provided protection to our shores during the war period and provided search parties in these areas as required by the authorities. The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County came into existence on March 31, 1942.

Transition to Equestrian Preservation

The Mounted Patrol acquired 23 acres of property in the heart of Woodside, California, and built one of the most beautiful outdoor rodeo and horseshow arena in California along with a permanent grandstand, separate warm-up arena, clubhouse and more recently,. 20-stall barn.

The modern Mounted Patrol operates as a center for equestrian improvement and excellence, a social club and a has a separately-administered 501(c)3 charitable foundation.
