A little about the Rodeo...

The largest annual community event in the Portola Valley/Woodside area is once again coming shortly, drawing viewers and participants from all over Northern California.  The Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County (MPSMC) proudly presents the 53rd annual Woodside Junior NorCal Rodeo in a park-like setting.  This rodeo started over a half-century ago in La Honda, California, and this year we are planning a fabulous gala event with many special attractions, including, but not limited to, an extra large petting zoo and the ever-famous pig scramble open to all children attending.

The rodeo is the largest fund raiser for the Mounted Patrol which is a major contributor to both local and national groups.  The benefactors of the Patrol efforts include but are not limited to: The Sheriff's STAR Program, which provides at-risk children with positive examples and alternatives to less-than-optimistic surroundings; the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy, where physical therapy on horseback is provided to severely handicapped children; St. Jude's Children's Hospital, which provides treatment and research in pediatric cancer and other childhood catastrophic diseases, and other organizations benefiting the community.

We normally host approximately 3000 + spectators. We hope you will once again provide the much needed media exposure which is extremely important to inform the community.  This rodeo is of special interest due to the fact that the contestants are ages 18 years and under and will perform most of the events usually associated with any professional rodeo.  The rodeo will be open to the public at 8:00AM (some qualifying events start at 8:00AM with the colors being presented around noon followed by the main events).  Beverages, breakfast, and lunch will be served throughout the day.

A special reminder:  Don't miss the Pre- Rodeo Dinner Dance taking place July 3rd.  The clubhouse will be open at 6pm for this dinner dance.  Please feel free to contact the Patrol at 650-851-8300 or www.mpsmc.org for further information or promotional material.
